Ode to the Unmasked Hero

Ode to the Unmasked Hero

The world whispers words to define us,

Some of us cower and take on the roles we are given,

Some of us hide who we truly are behind these masks that we live in,

Women paint their faces and try to forget,

The ugliness inside and the pain they have met,

Men build their muscles and speak loud with pride,

Work hard for anything but what lies inside,

These broken and bruised who hide all their pain,

Feed on other’s weakness for their own desperate gain,

When the night grows it’s darkest and idleness reigns,

There is one unmasked hero who always remains,

When you speak of heroes you talk of men in crimson capes,

Clutching their masks and making their grandesque escapes,

Men who swoop down and save for the glory,

Not waiting to discover the end of the story,

A valiant hero does not seek hiding behind a cloud,

The greatest of heroes stands out in the crowd.
